![]() Tupelo Water & Light Department - Residential Services Tupelo Water & Light Department customers enjoy some of the lowest electric utility rates in the country. At Tupelo Water & Light Department, we work hard to keep our operating and maintenance expenses down. At the same time, municipal systems like TW&L have lower rates than private utility companies because our customers are our owners and we do not have to make a profit for shareholders. We buy all of our electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority, which has a history of providing lower-cost electric power. Tupelo also enjoys a very high quality drinking water. Our water comes from the Northeast Mississippi Regional Water Supply District. The source of Tupelo's water is the Tombigbee River. It is treated and pumped through mains approximately 18 miles to the City of Tupelo. A network of water mains, elevated tanks and pumping stations provide good pressure and fire flow throughout the city. Residential Electric
