Records Division

The Records Division of the Tupelo Police Department is responsible for keeping track of accident and incident reports. Copies of reports may be requested at a charge of $3.00 per report. Accident reports can be released to any party involved in the accident or an insurance agent of one of the parties involved.

We request that attorneys have a signed release form from one of the involved parties before we release that report to them. Incident reports are released to the complainant or victim or an authorized agent of either party, also with a $3.00 fee. We WILL NOT release the report to ANY PERSON LISTED AS THE OFFENDER OR SUSPECT! A judge must issue a subpoena before the offender's report is released.

The Records Division also provides local background checks to the public. There is a $2 fee for this service and it only covers the City of Tupelo. It will not be a county, state or federal check, only the city! A photo id is required. We will only check the background of the person standing in front of us. WE WILL NOT RUN A BACKGROUND CHECK OF ANYONE'S BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND!!

The background checks are used for job applications, apartment applications, Visa applications for foreign travel and adoptions. We request that the top part of the form be filled out and one of Records personnel will check the appropriate box and then sign and date the form.

Parade and Demonstration Permits are also handled through the Records Division. Permits must be applied for at least two weeks in advance of the event.
