FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: How much is my speeding ticket?
A: The Court has a standard fine for a speeding ticket 1 – 20 miles per hour over the posted   limit and 21 - 30 over the posted limit. Call the court (662-841-6516) for the correct amount.

Q: How much does a ticket for disregarding a traffic control device (red light or stop sign) cost?
A: The Court has a standard fine for this violation. Please contact the court (662-841-6516) for the correct amount.

Q: What do I do about an insurance violation ticket?
A:
State law requires that the operator of a motor vehicle to have proof of insurance in the vehicle and provide proof of insurance when requested by a law enforcement officer. Not provided the proof will subject the driver to a citation regardless of who owns the vehicle.

An insurance violation is handled in the following manner:
1)
Mandatory court appearances and with proof of insurance the fine can only be adjusted by the Judge in open court
2) Failure to provide proof of insurance by the court date will subject the violator to a fine of $500.00 and assessments.
3)If the insurance was purchased after the ticket was issued and before the court appearance the fine amount is reduced to $100.00 plus assessments.
 

Q: I don’t have all of my fine money. Will the court allow me to make payments?
A: In most cases, the court will enter into a pay agreement with the defendant by setting the amount to be paid, the rate of payment and a deadline for the completion of the payments.

Q: Can I use the services of the Public Defender?
A: To request the services of the Public Defender one must petition the court showing that they have no means of paying for the services of a lawyer.

Q: Can I call and talk to the Judge before I go to court?
A: Canons of Judicial Ethics prohibit a Judge from having one-sided conversations on a matter set before his court.

Q: How do I enter a “not –guilty “plea?
A: A defendant may contest a charge by entering a “not-guilty” plea at their arraignment by filling out the attached form and mail it, fax it or present it to the court before the arraignment date.
