Q: What do I do about an insurance violation ticket?
A: State law requires that the operator of a motor vehicle to have proof of insurance in the vehicle and provide proof of insurance when requested by a law enforcement officer. Not provided the proof will subject the driver to a citation regardless of who owns the vehicle.

An insurance violation is handled in the following manner:
1) Mandatory court appearances and with proof of insurance the fine can only be adjusted by the Judge in open court
2) Failure to provide proof of insurance by the court date will subject the violator to a fine of $500.00 and assessments.
3)If the insurance was purchased after the ticket was issued and before the court appearance the fine amount is reduced to $100.00 plus assessments.
